Odesza’s A Moment Apart is one of those rare albums where nearly every song is a banger. I can’t count how many times I’ve let this album play for me in my iPod Nano on the motorcycle rides home from work. The title song is…
With Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods recently premiering on Netflix last week, Marvin Gaye’s Got To Give It Up takes center stage on a soundtrack that uses a lot of the singer’s music. When I hear this song, the first thing that comes to mind is 1993’s Menace II Society, where we’re introduced to Cain as a child. Released on the Live at the London Palladium album, the song clocks in at nearly 12 minutes, just half a minute shy of “A Love Bizarre”. It’s a great song to have in the background when you’re working on something.
And stand around
‘Cause I was too nervous
To really get down
I got up on the floor and found
Someone to choose me
And I’m havin’ a ball
Long as you prove it
There’s always a chance
Might wanna make romance
To the groove and feel all right
But if you see me, top down, let me in
Baby just party high and low
Let me step into your erotic zone
Turn it ’round
Ooo shake it down
Owwww
This is such a groovy party baby
We’re here face to face
Everybody’s swingin’
All the young ladies are so fine!
You’re movin your body easy with no doubts
I know what you thinkin’ baby
You wanna turn me out
Think I’m gonna let you do it babe
Got to give it up
Keep on dancin’
Got to give it up
Keep on dancin’
Got to give it up
Keep on dancin’
Got to give it up
Keep on dancin’
Got to give it up
Keep on dancin’
You got to get it
Got to give it up
Keep on dancin’
Got to give it up
