Goldeneye (by Tina Turner)
A co-worker informed me a few minutes ago that Tina Turner passed away, which had me check my phone. She was 83 years young, bless her heart. With songs like "What's Love Got to Do With It" (my Grandmother's favorite), "Private Dancer", "You Better Be...
The Spice Flows in the Dune Part Two Trailer!
The trailer for Denis Villeneuve's Dune Part Two was just released. We're seeing some new faces in Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Austin Butler as Feyd, Lea Seydoux as Lady Margot and Christopher Walken as the Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV. I like Javier Bardem's Stilgar...

Both Sides Now (by Joni Mitchell)

All I had was a melody and an image of someone lamenting something. Walking around through my neighborhood, with all of the Christmas lights, I had this song in my head that I just could not place. The only thing I did know was a line. A rising one that went “Sing out Loud”. I originally thought it was “Happy Days are Here Again” by Barbra Streisand, but finally found it. Turns out it was from Love, Actually and the song was “Both Sides Now” by Joni Mitchell.

Now, note that the song is usually a quick and upbeat, but this version is a bit slower. Definitely fitting for December, such a beautiful piece. Turns out the line wasn’t “sing out loud”, but “right out loud”, so I’m posting it before I lose it again.

Enjoy.

Lyrics:

Rows and floes of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I’ve looked at clouds that way

But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way

I’ve looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
It’s cloud illusions I recall
I really don’t know clouds at all

Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels
The dizzy dancing way you feel
As every fairy tale comes real
I’ve looked at love that way

But now it’s just another show
You leave ’em laughing when you go
And if you care, don’t let them know
Don’t give yourself away

I’ve looked at love from both sides now
From give and take, and still somehow
It’s love’s illusions I recall
I really don’t know love at all

Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say “I love you” right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
I’ve looked at life that way

But now old friends are acting strange
They shake their heads, they say I’ve changed
Well something’s lost, but something’s gained
In living every day

I’ve looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
It’s life’s illusions I recall
I really don’t know life at all

I’ve looked at life from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
It’s life’s illusions I recall
I really don’t know life at all
