In 1967, Tom Scott and the California Dreamers also borrowed and remade Jefferson Airplane’s Today, but with an upbeat Jazz style to it. Only a small portion of the lyrics from the original are used. Scott’s played with the Blues Brothers, Robbie Williams, and Tina Turner, along with many others. The latter half of this version of the song has his saxophone in play, and I love how deep and crazy he goes in with it. I’ve never heard this before, so I’m really curious about his other work, which I’ll give a listen. From 1967’s The Honeysuckle Breeze album, here’s Today.
Lyrics:
I feel like pleasing you more than before
I know what I want to do but I don’t know what for
To be living for you is all I want to do
To be loving you it’ll all be there when my dreams come true
To be anymore than all I am would be a lie
I’m so full of love I could burst apart and start to cry
