Ah, Valentine’s Day is tomorrow!
The beautiful thing about Valentine’s Day is that it’s usually the one time of the year (other than Christmas, maybe) where people put aside their arguments with the world and recognize there are sweet things about this existence of ours. Love comes in a million forms. It’s the surprise cookie you found in your lunch from your parents. Love is that glance and smile from a loved one across a crowded room that says..”I’m still nearby if you need me.” Love is also the frustration (and forgiveness) that comes with the arguments. Sometimes, words are said. Other times, the things we mean to say just never get out there, and Love moves on. Many love songs were written for such moments. Take Gloria Estefan’s “Words Get In the Way”, for example. It’s a great 80s track that’s just full of love and perfect for that Rom-Com montage of separated lovers walking through the city.
Lyrics:
I realize you’re seeing someone new
I don’t believe she knows you like I do
Your temperamental moody side,
The one you always try to hide from me
But I know when you have some thing on your mind
You’ve been trying to tell me for the longest time
And before you break my heart in two
There’s something I’ve been trying to say to you
But the words get in the way
There’s so much I want to say
But it’s locked deep inside and if you look in my eyes
We might fall in love again
I won’t even start to cry
And before we say goodbye
I tried to say “I love you”
But the words got in the way
Your heart has always been an open door
But baby I don’t even know you any more
And despite the fact it’s hurting me
I know the time has come to set you free
But the words get in the way
There’s so much I want to say
But it’s locked deep inside and if you look in my eyes
We might fall in love again
I won’t even start to cry
And before we say goodbye
I tried to say “I love you”
But the words got in the way
I’m trying to say “I love you”
But the words get in the way
